Located across from the Pacific Ocean, this skate board street course features elements that challenges both beginner and intermediate skaters. The skate park is next to a fresh water estuary, bordered on two sides by a playground. The site experiences estuary water at 30” below grade. Robert Mowat Associates held a number of community outreach meetings to involve as many skaters as possible into it’s possible design. Skaters were encouraged to fill out detailed questionnaires, sketch and create clay models. A true collaboration between community, skaters and designers was achieved in the final design. The park includes street course elements such as steps, rails, curbs, and ledges to perform the most common tricks such as tail and nose grinding, ollies and kick flips. Within this skate experience is the Monterey Moon. Formed as a crescent, skaters perform numerous tricks on this sculpted piece of concrete.
