The Alvarado district in the 1990’s was a small pocket of stores and restaurants surrounded by homes with substantial historic character. RMA realizing the potential for a community center, created a master plan for the existing 4 acre park based upon an historic aesthetic. The central focus is a community gazebo created as a social center. The gazebo acts as stage and community showcase. Victorian styled iron fencing, old styled brick paving, benches and water fountains further the theme. Two children’s play areas were renovated. One has a dinosaur themed play area with dinosaur dig, digger tools, play phones and a recycled tire dinosaur. A corner section of the park is devoted to teen use. A series of recreation elements include visible gathering areas, table tennis, chess/checker boards, shuffleboards and tetherball. Nearby are two basketball courts and a ball field for organized sports.
