This single family home project surrounded by an interstate freeway, a sensitive creek habitat, an Indian midden site and a large orchard was designed by RMA with landscape amenities that respond to the sites unique constraints. The decaying orchard was replaced with a California Oak grove. The midden site was preserved with a graveled path, benches and a California wildflower planting scheme. The creek is protected from the homes by the planning of vegetated back yard buffers. The freeway was heavily screened with colorful shrubs and evergreen plantings. RMA designed 43 front yard landscapes along with a model complex. Landscapes exemplify low water consuming plants, organic soil amendments, water absorbing gels, the sparse use of lawn and the use of hardscape for design effect.
