Orchard heights is the first all solar single family planned development constructed in the City of San Jose. The project has a significantly sloped site and regional trail system. The interior of the project is characterized by a lush landscaped drive which acts as a collector road within the community. Common spaces were designed to be in conformance with the Evergreen Specific Plan of San Jose. Seven separate city agencies reviewed the plans (Planning, Building, Public Works, South Bay Water Recycling, Health, City Arborist and the City of San Jose’s maintenance division). RMA designed the project landscape to attain a Silver LEED rating. RMA designed a recycled water irrigation system managed by satellite controllers. Three model homes exemplify how usable space can be achieved in small rear yards divided by retaining walls.
