Located adjacent to Alameda Creek is the final connecting segment of the Union City Trail. This final trail segment designed by Robert Mowat Associates serves to fully connect the northern portion of Union City with the southern city limits. The trail functions as a Class 1 bikeway while also allowing for maintenance vehicles and flood control operations. The trail is often busy on weekends with bikers, joggers and walking families enjoying the creek and the lush landscaping. The trail was designed with extremely low maintenance in mind. Trees and shrubs require only rare instances of pruning. The plantings are almost disease and insect resistant and expel very little litter. Water consumption of the plantings is minimal. The firm designed a drip system which was shut off after four years of operation. The completed trail offers a community wide resource for its residents.
