Robert Mowat Associates created a unique park on the site of an old steel mill situated within a residential district with an ethnically diverse population. Drigon Park has become a catalyst for neighborhood’s residents to interact in a friendly community setting. The park itself is fenced with an internal walking path in the shape of a bone, enhanced with paw prints and precast fire hydrants. A large lawn allows dogs to play and roam freely. An agility course of canine play features provides opportunities to climb ramps, jump through hoops and run in tunnels. ‘Pooch Plaza’ is a shade meeting area where dogs and owners can interact. Dog drinking fountains and “mutt mitt” stations are conveniently provided. Drigon Dog Park was named “The Best and Coolest Dog Park in the State” by the popular book “The Dog Lovers Companion to California” and has been featured several times on the TV program ‘Bay Area Backroads’.
